About the Napa Wine Train
|
|
Passenger service was discontinued in the 1930s due to the rise of the automobile, and the train tracks in St. Helena were eventually abandoned altogether in 1960. But, in 1987, a group of Napa Valley citizens purchased the tracks and created the Napa Valley Wine Train with the goal of preserving the historic rail line and of reducing congestion in the Napa Valley. Today, the Napa Valley Wine Train offers several interesting wine tasting tours that run from Napa to St. Helena, allowing passengers to relax, enjoy local wines and dine on a gourmet lunch or dinner as they ride in luxurious, turn-of-the-century Pullman lounge cars, observation cars and dining cars. Fully-stocked wine bars in the lounge cars offer more than 100 different local wines and the Wine Train station’s popular wine shop stocks over 300 different wines for wine lovers to choose from. The Napa Valley Wine Train also offers several special events throughout the year including murder mystery dinners, vintner's luncheons, and a variety of private events. www.winetrain.com
